The Atlanta Braves fought hard to get to 24-23 after their 0-7 start, but after losing four consecutive series the Braves now find themselves fourth in the NL East standings with a 27-31 record.
Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos announced Monday night that Fredi González has replaced Matt Tuiasosopo as the team’s third base coach. Tuiasosopo has recently received criticism for some of his decisions over the past couple weeks.
Along with the criticism of Tuiasosopo there have also been a lot of talks about the Braves needing to see Brian Snitker have a fiery moment with an umpire and get ejected or needing to see one of Atlanta’s players get worked up to maybe give this team a spark.
Well, former pitcher for the Atlanta Braves and now Braves color analyst for FanDuel Sports Network CJ Nitkowski joined The Morning Shift earlier today, and explained why he thinks the Braves’ new third base coach could be the spark Atlanta needs.
“The idea of bringing in another coach to kind of change the chemistry a little bit, there’s probably something to it, Fredi has experienced a lot in this game, and so hopefully that little boost maybe that Alex Anthopoulos was thinking about, what Snit [Brian Snitker] was thinking about could be something that you get from Fredi.” Nitkowski said
This sort of shake up seems like it should provide a spark for the Braves, but only time will tell. Hopefully that spark kicks in tonight as the Braves start a three game home series with the Diamondbacks, and kick off what will be a very important month of June.
