Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves currently not talking contract extension and won't be 'any time soon'

The Atlanta Braves have gotten off to a sluggish start to begin the 2021 season. But there has been another storyline that everyone in the city of Atlanta wants an answer to.

Everyone wants to know when Freddie Freeman's contract extension is going to get done. Freeman is in the last year of his contract and he is the foundation piece the Braves have to have if they want to win a World Series. He spoke to the media and mentioned that he doesn't see a deal getting done in the near future.

"There is no negotiations," Freeman said. "I'm worried about [Jameson] Taillon tonight and that's about it. There's nothing going on."

Freeman was then asked if the lack of conversation with the Braves was concerning.

"No concern," the Braves first baseman said. "I don't know if we can really even talk right now. That would be a distraction and I don't like distractions. My main focus is the game tonight. I don't think there's going to be much talking going on any time soon."

Jon Chuckery thinks the response to Freeman's comments is a little overblown. "Freddie is going to get his money," Chuckery said. The Braves can't afford to let a guy like Freeman walk while he is in his prime. So, for now, it looks like the Braves won't be able to make sure Freeman finishes his career in Atlanta.
