Of course Nick Kayal congratulate Freddie Freeman for winning the NL MVP Award He explained why Freeman is deserving of the award, and went through his journey of this season, beginning with a bad case of COVID-19 where he feared for his life to him obviously winning the MVP.
However Nick did not stop there. Kayal explained why Freeman is now a top five player in Major League Baseball.
For Nick it's simple, he says “there aren’t five players that are better than Freddie Freeman right now.”
However, Nick does clearly state that he is talking about right now.
“If we’re talking about right now at this very moment, not five years from now, not who’d you’d rather have for 10 years, not career resume, but at this very moment on November 14, 2020, I got Freddie ahead of Christian Yellich, I got him ahead of Anthony Rendon, ahead of Cody Bellinger," Kayal said. "Doesn’t mean he’ll be the better player next year, but at this moment how do you argue against Freddie Freeman being in the top five.”
Nick isn’t wrong if you look at Freddie Freeman’s numbers this year.
Freeman led the league in fWAR (wins above replacement from Fangraphs) with 3.4, in runs with 53, and was second in the league in wOBA (weighted on-base average) with .456, RBIs with 51 and OPS with 1.102. Those numbers explain exactly why he got the MVP, and exactly why he is a top-five player right now.
