Find you a pitcher that can do both: provide you a quality start and produce in the batter's box.
That's exactly what the Atlanta Braves have found in starting pitcher Huascar Ynoa.
The right-hander stifled the Washington Nationals offense, allowing only four hits, two walks, one unearned run while striking out four in seven-innings of work on Tuesday night.
More impressively, Ynoa added his second home run in as many starts; this one being a grand slam.
Ynoa is the first Braves pitcher, since moving to Atlanta, to homer in back-to-back starts and the first since June 1961. He's also the first pitcher to hit a grand slam since 2018 when Cincinnati Reds' Anthony DeSclafani went yard.
In the off-season, you didn't hear of Ynoa being mentioned as part of the Braves five-man starting rotation, but he ended up beating out Kyle Wright and Bryse Wilson for that 5th spot. With Mike Soroka being injured to start the season, and the inconsistency of Max Fried, Charlie Morton and Drew Smyly, Ynoa has become a key piece for the Braves.
"He's dealing, he's nasty and he's throwing heat and he's got breaking stuff that guys can't hit--and then you add to it what he's doing when he's in the batter's box," Andy Bunker said.
"Even more than that, from like a big pitcher standpoint in the context of what the Braves first 30 games have been, he's vital."
Ynoa is 3-1 with a 2.36 ERA over 34.1 innings of work. At the plate, he's 5-for-13 for the season with a .385 average and six RBIs.
