Bowden: It's lopsided, best deal in Braves history

Early Tuesday afternoon, reports of a new contract for Ronald Acuna Jr. began to circulate and shortly after that, they were confirmed by the Atlanta Braves.

The Atlanta #Braves today agreed to terms with OF Ronald Acuña Jr. on an eight-year contract extension through 2026 worth $100 million, with club options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. pic.twitter.com/Rm18jswH5r

Former MLB GM Jim Bowden joined John and Hugh on Wednesday morning and shared some incredibly strong thoughts on the deal.

"It's lopsided. This is a club friendly deal, the Braves win this deal. At minimum, the Braves will have saved over $50 million and that's being extremely conservative. When I look at all the outfielders, Mike Trout is the best, Mookie Betts is second, and I'd take Acuna third over everybody else, no offense to Bryce Harper"

Bowden continues to look at how easy a decision this was from the Braves perspective. "Fast forward ahead a decade and he's going to get $17 million a year on two club options. Do the math on those two alone. $30 million today is going to be $40 million then or more. And you're going to have him for 17 a year those two free agent year. The club did a tremendous job."

Bowden continues to rain down the compliments to the Braves front office.

"The Braves did a great job when they signed Freddie Freeman to that extension, but this this may be the best contract ever signed by the Atlanta Braves organization in terms of saving money over the length of the contract"

Jim Bowden, who is also an MLB Analyst for CBS Sports, describes why this deal should excite fans as it allows them to build a winner more easily.

"Braves fans should be most excited because they can spend more money around him at the appropriate time."

Bowden closes his comments on the Braves and Acuna by mentioning how this deal that could lead to Ronald Acuna being a Brave for his entire career.

"Now you have mutual loyalty. You're with the Braves. You and Freddie Freeman are going to be here for a while. That's a good feeling for a fan base and a player, to know where he's going to be."
