Ronald Acuña Jr. will be okay. Braves fans everywhere took a collective sigh of relief after a report was sent out by the team stating the reigning MVP will be ready for Opening Day. The irritation in his meniscus was a scare after a baserunning blunder.
The Braves enter the 2024 season as World Series contenders. It’s always a tough task to make it through a 162-game season without injuries. So should this scare make the Braves reconsider what is widely viewed as a weak bench? Forrest Wall or Eli White would have been the replacement for Acuña, significantly weakening their outfield. The team does not currently have a tenured, productive backup outfielder. Maybe now that will change.
There are some solid major league players still available on the free agent market. A couple of familiar faces are available as well including Adam Duvall and last year’s starting left fielder in Eddie Rosario. As Opening Day comes closer, perhaps one of those two would take a discount to come back to Atlanta and try to win another title.
