Opening Day for the Atlanta Braves is on Friday, and earlier today Braves manager Walt Weiss announced that starting pitcher Spencer Strider will begin the season on the injured list with an oblique strain, and The Steakhouse gave their initial reactions when the news initially broke.
“If you think we’re just going to outscore people, that's not the formula in baseball. The formula in baseball is to have guys if they’re not gonna go deep in games, because we know that’s not really what baseball is about, they certainly are gonna give you quality starts. That does not look like a rotation that is gonna to do that. That looks like a rotation that will struggle when they face the better teams in baseball…” Steak said
Steak finished his thought by saying “Now all of a sudden the Mets and the Phillies absolutely vault in a much better position in the National League East because you say the Braves are really in trouble and it’s in crisis mode.” Steak said
Strider joins Spencer Schwellenbach, Hurston Waldrep (elbow bone spurs removal), A.J. Smith-Shawver (Tommy John surgery) and Joey Wentz (ACL tear in right knee) as Braves pitchers that will miss time this season.
Starting pitcher Lucas Giolito remains unsigned, and an option for a Braves team that did get back a little over 18 million dollars due to Jurickson Profar's 162-game suspension, and even though Giolito has his own injury history, including ending last season with right elbow discomfort, the Braves may be left without a choice with the predicament their in now.
