The Braves have more to lose than a shot at the playoffs

After Ronald Acuna tore his ACL, many fans have lost all hope for the season. The organization cannot follow suit.

The Atlanta Braves received devastating news as they approached the All Star Break: the 23-year-old phenom, Ronald Acuna, tore his ACL while trying to make a play in right field. This announcement is just the most recent in a long series of frustrating moments this season has given us, but what do the Braves do next? Should they be sellers? Cory McCartney joined Sam & Greg to discuss why that would be a mistake.

The decision to sell would be wrong for one key reason: Freddie Freeman.

"Come October 1st, if I don't make the postseason I've got Freddie Freeman who's a free agent. What did I (Anthopoulos) do to make sure that he had long-term back up in this lineup."

Securing Freddie Freeman is paramount for this organization. He has been the face of the franchise for over a decade and the Braves would be foolish to let him get away. This team can't afford to just punt the rest of the season and sell away assets.

"That guy who you want to be a Brave for life is a factor in this, too."

Perhaps the Braves do end up selling a few pieces, but they must find a way to show Freeman that they are invested in the present, not just the future, and get him to stay in Atlanta.
