After a weekend where the Braves lost their seventh consecutive game which included a fifth straight loss by one run, it seems as if things have hit rock bottom for this team.
Abe Gordon on The Steakhouse Monday morning believes quite simply the Braves need a change.
No the change isn’t at manager or in the front office but rather amongst the fans to realize this season is OVER. That would mean Atlanta needs to become sellers at the deadline for the first time in over a decade.
Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is just over a month away on July 31st and Gordon believes starter Chris Sale along with designated hitter Marcel Ozuna should be sent packing in favor of young talent.
Sale is in the middle of a 2-year deal that has an $18 million dollar club option for 2026. Ozuna becomes a free agent next season playing in the final year of his 4-year contract
The Braves organization has not been a part of a mid-season selloff of top talent since 2008 when they were forced to trade away first baseman Mark Teixeira after failing to reach a contract extension.
Atlanta did move multiple MLB players in 2015 for prospects that included Hector Olivera, but that deal is not remembered fondly because of what followed.
