Liberty Media took quite a beating the past few seasons as many felt they weren't giving Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos enough tools to "go all in" to try to win a World Series.
Despite the limitations, the Braves went out and won a World Series anyways and some fan pressure on Liberty Media subsided, but seemingly not for long.
John and Hugh wonder if all the goodwill that Liberty Media built up by the World Series run would be gone if Freeman ends up elsewhere.
"The DH is now permanent in the National League, there is no reason you can't give him a 6th year in his contract, because if he does slow down as a fielder you can always DH him the last year or two of that deal, because he's not going to forget how to hit," says John Fricke. "If Liberty Media doesn't offer Freddie Freeman 6 years and $180 Million and we lose him, not talking about somebody overpaying him, if they fail to make a market offer, and Freddie walks, does that destroy the goodwill that Liberty Media built up?
"I love Freddie, would love him to be here, but if Freddie takes a deal from somebody else, Liberty Media is still in position to say we offered him something," says Hugh Douglas. "You let Freddie be courted, that's the problem."
Right now due to the MLB work-stoppage Freeman and Liberty Media haven't been able to continue negotiating a deal, but when that ends, if they still can't come to an agreement, the pitchforks will be right back out.
