The Atlanta Falcons were blessed with a stroke of good fortune in the first night of the 2025 NFL Draft. Jalon Walker, a presumed top 10 pick heading into the evening, fell to them at pick 15. To make things even more exciting, James Pearce and their other top target, fell even further into the 20s.
After seeing Pearce fall, Terry Fontenot made the aggressive move to jump back into the first round to take a second edge rusher. The Falcons ended up giving up their 2026 first-round pick, their current second-round pick (No. 46), and their seventh-round pick for the Rams' No. 26 overall pick (James Pearce) and their third-round pick (No. 90).
The Steakhouse discussed why they're thrilled with this decision, but also why anyone who is upset that the team gave up their 2026 first round pick should simply get over themselves.
"You are trying to finally get to a place where you are in the conversation with the Lions and the Rams and the Eagles and anybody else in the NFC, of the elite teams," Steak said about his immediate thoughts after the first night. "You're going to worry about where next year's pick is going to land? You have to fix your pass rush [like] you had to fix it 10 years ago, like you had to 15 years ago, like you had to do five years ago.
"You don't wait to fix it. You fix it right away and say next year, 'The sky is the limit!'"
With this move, however aggressive, the Falcons potentially shored up a position which has plagued them for 25 years. At the cost of a future first, fixing the pass rush is worth it.
