Two years after running Matt Ryan out of town after a failed courtship of Deshaun Watson, the Falcons seem to be in no-man's land when it comes to the QB position. With the Falcons at 6-7 on the season and neither trending towards being a true contender or to having a top draft pick, it feels like they are stuck in a viscous cycle of mediocrity at the sports most important position.
The Falcons handed the franchise to Desmond Ridder to begin this season, adding backup QB Taylor Heinicke for some security, and while Ridder has not taken the steps forward many had been counting on, including requiring a benching in favor of Heinicke who was also unimpressive, the Falcons don't seem to have a ton of options moving forward.
The Falcons aren't going to be able to draft one of the top 2 QB's in the NFL Draft due to their likely draft position, and unless they are able to spend in free agency to bring in a veteran, or make a trade for a guy like Justin Fields or Kyler Murray, the Falcons may be looking at another year where they enter the season without a guy people trust to be a franchise QB.
