The best case scenario for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2021 NFL Draft

Nick Kayal believes an ugly pick is the right pick for the Atlanta Falcons

Early on in the Nick Kayal Show today, Nick discussed what he thinks would be the best case scenario for the Atlanta Falcons when the day of the NFL Draft comes around. Last night when Nick filled in for Jon Chuckery on the Jon Chuckery show he gave his worst case NFL Draft scenario for Terry Fontenot and the Falcons. Nick believes the worst case scenario for the Falcons in this years NFL Draft is the Falcons drafting back to back skill players with their first two picks, whether it’s Kyle Pitts and Javonte Williams or whoever Nick says drafting back to back skill players screams “old regime.” Nick also says if the Falcons draft back to back skill players he will “re-brand Terry Fontenot as Terry Dimitroff.” However, enough with the negativity let’s get into what Nick believes is the best case scenario is for the Falcons come draft night.

Nick knows just like any serious football fan, coach, or general manager that a football team is “built in the trenches.” Also, Nick said today what he has been saying for a while, and that is “If you’re out of the quarterback sweepstakes you have to trade down.” However, Nick did say if the Falcons are planning to go offensive line with the number four overall pick then he could get behind that, but he also says “In a perfect world trading down and then going offensive line and acquiring more picks is something that makes a ton of sense.” Nick likes Penei Sewell or Rashawn Slater, but says “There’s about three tackles in this draft, or three offensive lineman, one of which is very flexible and can play multiple positions that all seem to be a consensus top fifteen pick.” With all that being said, to continue the scenario you trade down, let a team give you a boat load of picks, draft an offensive lineman, and then draft your running back of the future either with the 35th overall pick or even possibly trading back into the draft for a guy like Najee Harris who Nick says “Isn’t quite Derrick Henry big but is close.” If the Falcons execute something like that this year in the draft they will have a one hundred percent approval rate from Nick Kayal.

Whether it’s Penei Sewell and Najee Harris or Rashawn Slater and Travis Etienne, Nick says that if the Falcons go offensive line, running back combo then the Falcons will have something close to what Arthur Smith had in Tennessee, and we know what success he had there. You give Matt Ryan a healthy Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, a reliable offensive line, and a good running game, the Atlanta Falcons could be back in contention as soon as next year.
