The fallout from the Atlanta Falcons 2024 NFL Draft continues.
As the conversation moves away from their selection of Michael Penix Jr., it now switches to the rest of Atlanta's roster. The team still has a few glaring holes to fill between now and its first game of the season. One of the most important positions on the field is one of those spots. The Falcons have a big decision to make at cornerback.
The team has several options to try and fill the void. Internal options include Clark Phillips lll, who enters his sophomore season, as well as veterans Kevin King and Antonio Hamilton. None of those options appear to be a lock-down solution on paper. The lack of depth also shines a brighter light on the draft as GM Terry Fontenot and his staff chose not to select a corner.
The Falcons’ defensive coaching staff is full of experience dealing with the secondary. Head Coach Raheem Morris, Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake and Associate Head Coach Jerry Gray are all established secondary coaches that will look to get the most out of their roster. The team would have to make some moves with the salary cap in order to sign a veteran free agent with only roughly $5 million left to spend.
