There has been a lot of discussion when it comes to the Atlanta Falcons defensive end position, especially when it comes to sixth-year player Vic Bealsey.
Beasley is missing that "push rusher's mindset," Smith said. Meaning, "they're humble enough to do things they aren't comfortable with."
Smith said he needs to focus on developing skilled moves, change of direction instead of just the bull-rush that he's known for.
"He's got to be humble enough to make those small adjustments."
Why can't Beasley get back to that 15 1/2 number that he had in the 2016 season?
Smith said part of it has to do with the offense. When Beasley put up those big numbers, the offense was scoring 30-plus points. A high-scoring offense makes it easier on the defense, most importantly a defensive end, to get after the quarterback.
What can Coach Quinn do to get the eighth overall pick in the 2015 draft back to form?
"You can't coach a 'dog mentality.' You have to have 'dog' in you," Smith said. "They have to work on signature pass-rush moves."
Can Beasley get back to being that consistent pass-rusher?
"Yes, no question. I 100 percent believe Vic is fixable," Smith said, giving his nod to the Falcons head coach. "I do trust Dan (to get it fixed) because he's a defensive-minded coach."
