Monday afternoon, Houston Texans owner Cal McNair pulled the plug on Bill O'Brien and ended "BOB's" tenure as both the Head Coach and General Manager after six-plus seasons.
Monday night, the Atlanta Falcons took to Lambeau Field against the unbeaten Green Bay Packers and a few hours later joined the Texans as another 0-4 team.
How can Falcons owner Arthur Blank allow this to continue? The firings have begun in the league and now is the ideal time for Blank to end the Quinn experiment. His shelf life has expired. The Falcons are now 25-31 since winning the NFC Championship in January of 2017.
Green Bay, without star wide receiver Davante Adams, was able to have its way with Atlanta. Packers running-back Aaron Jones was left wide open for the game's first touchdown. It was as if Falcons defenders were distancing themselves in coverage and allowed Green Bay's only legit threat untouched and unaccounted for.
The Falcons made a great goal-line stand on fourth and inches and took over at their own 1-yard line after Packers head coach Matt LaFleur decided not to sneak Aaron Rodgers.
Atlanta, in typical Atlanta fashion, would put together a 20-play, 94-yard drive that ate up 10:36 of the clock that ultimately resulted in a field goal. How is that possible? Because it's the Falcons under Dan Quinn. That's why.
Firing Dan Quinn. That's easy. Who should be the replacement? That's also easy. His name is Eric Bieniemy.
Bieniemy, the Chiefs offensive coordinator under Andy Reid, is ready to be a head coach in the NFL. He should have been given the opportunity last year. Bieniemy is in his third year as the offensive coordinator in Kansas City, and prior to that was the running backs coach with the Chiefs. The 51-year-old has paid his dues. And while Reid has a huge imprint on the Chiefs offense and the team is loaded with weapons, Bieniemy is a good play-caller in his own right, is willing to get in his players' faces when they underachieve, and has league wide adoration.
Cal McNair got the ball rolling. When an NFL coach reaches his expiration date they need to go.
Time for Arthur Blank to make the second firing.
Eric Bieniemy should be the Falcons next coach when 2020 ends.
