The Atlanta Falcons finally made a splash in free agency when they added former Panthers running back Mike Davis to a two-year deal on Tuesday morning.
Davis, who filled in for Christian McCaffrey the majority of last season, had six rushing touchdowns in 12 starts for the 5-11 Panthers, while adding 59 catches and two TDs through the air.
Davis, who grew up in Stone Mountain and played his high school football locally at Stephenson, went to South Carolina and played football and ran track before being drafted in the fourth round by the 49ers.
Davis should come into Arthur Smith's offense as the lead back as Brian Hill and Todd Gurley have both entered free agency. Ito Smith and Qadree Ollison are the other RBs currently on the Falcons roster.
Considering what Derrick Henry was able to do in Coach Smith's offense, you can imagine that Davis is pumped to be handed a leading role in a rush-heavy offense.
In addition to adding Davis, the Falcons also added Barkevious Mingo, a former first-round pick of the Browns who has bounced around to six NFL teams, most recently the Chicago Bears.
Mingo is expected to add some depth to the linebacker corps while also providing some playmaking on special teams.
