Falcons' biggest offensive question remains running back production

The Atlanta Falcons have had a busy offseason as they made changes up and down the organization, including a new head coach and GM.

The new coach, Arthur Smith, came over from Tennessee, where the best RB in the NFL led a rushing attack to be reckoned with.

With that in mind, new GM Terry Fontenot's biggest free-agent addition, RB Mike Davis, was added from the Panthers to hopefully address that situation.

Davis had a semi-breakout season for Carolina last year after Christian McCaffrey went down with injury early in the season.

The Falcons have been desperate to find a consistent running game for quite a while now. The last guy to run for over 1,000 yards was Devonta Freeman back in 2016, so Davis comes to Atlanta with a lot of expectations.

While the Falcons are certainly asking a lot of Davis, the questions surrounding the run game don't start and stop with him.

There is some uncertainty along the offensive line that could impact the play of whomever gets the handoff.

Also a quick look at the depth chart reveals that the backup RB role is certainly up in the air and seems to be left in the hands of unproven third-year back Qadree Ollison.

Maybe Ollison can show more than what we saw from him during the Dan Quinn/Raheem Morris era, and maybe Cordarrelle Patterson's experience can have an impact, because you certainly can't put the entire run game on the shoulders of Davis.

With Smith's offensive philosophy from his previous stops, you have to wonder if the Falcons have the makeup to run his offense to his liking or if he'll have to adapt on the fly a little more than he expected.
