The Atlanta Falcons have a big decision to make next season.
Kyle Pitts will be due nearly $11 million if the team picks up his fifth-year option. The issue is; however, he may want to be designated as a wide receiver and that would bump his pay to nearly $20 million. His Pro Bowl appearance as a rookie elevates those valuations. The question becomes is he worth that amount of money?
Pitts has missed significant time due to injuries and his production when healthy has not been up to his draft position at No. 4 overall in 2021. Despite a nice touchdown grab last Sunday vs the Bucs, Pitts only has two receiving TDs on the season and five for his entire career. He currently has 549 yards through 13 games and it will be a stretch for him to break the 1,000 yard mark for the second time in his career.
He was drafted to be the Falcons’ version of George Kittle or Travis Kelce. Pitts has not been able to come close to those lofty standards. There has been discussion how healthy he has been this year after recovering from season-ending surgery this offseason. The lack of production will make for a very tough choice for the Falcons. Will they bank on his potential at just 23-years-old and pay him? Or will we see Pitts in another uniform after the 2024 season
