With the Atlanta Falcons’ convincing win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, they find themselves in sole possession of first place in the NFC South. And while the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers do not pose much of a threat, the Bucs are still a formidable opponent, and will not go down quietly. But besides the Detroit Lions, is there any other team in the NFC that would threaten the Falcons playoff status?
As of the end of week eight, the answer appears to be no. That is not to say that as other teams get healthy, such as the San Francisco 49ers, that they will not give the Falcons a run for their money, but as of now the Falcons look like a top-two team in the NFC. The only real facet of their game that does not appear strong is the pass rush. Will they do anything at the upcoming trade deadline to improve? If what the team tells fans about going “all-in”, then the answer would be yes, but time will indeed tell. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael talk more about a great Falcons’ win over the Bucs, and their chances of headed in to the playoffs with a possible bye.
