Falcons playing the waiting game to fill roster spots

With all the preseason NFL roster rankings being unveiled over the past week, it's clear that the Atlanta Falcons have a lot of work to do.

Multiple publications have the Falcons ranked near the bottom or last in overall roster ratings. This seems like a significant drop compared to the team that reached the Super Bowl just six seasons ago...but we won't get into that.

Jon Chuckery was joined by Falcons reporter Tori McElhany on Thursday night and she thinks that the Falcons are far from done making moves in the free agent market. When asked if she thinks that the team is still shopping for players to solidify this roster, Tori was more than confident.

"I do think when you're looking at guys who are on other teams, who may be castoff from other teams, even some practice squad guys that you can go after that can really make a differnce in depth."

Tori added, "I fully believe they have their eye on players in other organizations that could be on the borderline of making that team when they could be important pieces for the Falcons right now."

With the signing of defensive tackle Eddie Goldman this week, it's clear that the focus of this offseason has been primarily on solidifying the defensive line and trying to strengthen a defensive unit that ranked out as one of the worst in the NFL last season.

Tori made it clear that the roster we're seeing right now for the Falcons will more than likely not be the roster that takes the field against the Saints in September for week 1.

"I think that it's almost a done deal that you're going to see a lot of turnover thorought training camp and the winding down to Week 1."

So now it's just a waiting game to see what the final makeup of the roster will be for the fall. One thing is for sure, for a team that exceeded expectations last season despite it's faults, the Falcons will stay the course and compete for a playoff spot this season.
