The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly addressed one of their biggest offseason questions. According to Ian Rapoport, the team has decided to place the franchise tag on tight end Kyle Pitts. The move would give Pitts a fully guaranteed one-year contract worth more than $15 million. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be playing on a short-term deal next season. The Falcons and Pitts still have until July to negotiate and potentially agree on a long-term extension.
Since being selected fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, Kyle Pitts has shown flashes of elite potential. He recorded over 1,000 receiving yards as a rookie — becoming just the second rookie tight end in league history to reach that mark — and has totaled more than 2,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. When healthy and properly featured in the offense, Pitts has proven he can be one of the most dynamic mismatches at his position.
