Calvin Ridley emerged on the scene in 2018 with 10 touchdowns as a rookie. He caught seven more in his second season with the Falcons. If things continue on pace, Ridley will fly past 17 TD receptions in 2020 alone.
In the first half of Atlanta’s Week 2 game in Dallas, Ridley hauled in five passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. That gives Ridley four for the 2020 season, and the campaign is only six quarters old.
While no one is Vegas is adjusting Ridley’s over/under to match his current pace of 42 touchdowns if you consider he’s scored four through six quarters, or even 32 touchdowns (considering two TD receptions per game), it is easy to predict that Ridley could far outperform either (or both) of his first two seasons.
In 2018, to go along with his 10 TDs, Ridley caught 64 passes for 821 yards. The following season he had 63 receptions for 866 yards. Already at 215 yards through the air and 14 catches, Ridley could get into eye-popping status before too long.
Just for reference, the single-season NFL record for TD receptions is 23, set by Randy Moss in 2007. Jerry Rice is the only other NFL player with more than 20 touchdown catches in a season. he hauled in 22 in 1987.
Not bad for a guy who is the Falcons' second option in the passing game.
