The Atlanta Falcons made another splash move on Tuesday, signing WR Darnell Mooney to a three-year, $39 million deal with $26 million guaranteed. This move comes on the heels of the blockbuster signing of Kirk Cousins on Monday. With those offensive moves in place, is the only move now for the Falcons with the No. 8 overall pick in April’s NFL draft to take the best pass-rusher on the board?
All eyes point to either Alabama’s Dallas Turner or Florida State’s Jared Verse being the top available edge players. The Falcons greatly improved their sack total in 2023 but still finished league average when it comes to being a dominant unit. Either player would fit perfectly in Atlanta with Verse perceived to be more finished product.
The Falcons could also turn to offensive line or cornerback in the first round but the value is greatest with those two-dominant pass-rushers. It remains to be seen if the team will make any more moves before the draft or if Cousins and Mooney will be their main offseason signings.
