Jeff Ulbrich named Falcons defensive coordinator

On the day the Jets completed an interview with Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., we learned one of the candidates they’ve interviewed is definitely out.

That is former defensive coordinator and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, who has accepted a job as the Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator under Raheem Morris, reuniting the two who were on Dan Quinn’s staff in Atlanta a decade ago.

Ulbrich, 47, was Atlanta’s linebackers coach from 2015-19 under Quinn, and then was elevated to assistant head coach in 2020 – and then defensive coordinator when Quinn was fired mid-season and then-DC Morris was elevated to interim head coach

He came to the Jets in 2021 with Robert Saleh as his DC, and then took over as interim head coach when Saleh was fired, going 3-9.

In Atlanta, Ulbrich replaces Jimmy Lake, who was on Morris’ staff with both the Rams and Bucs in the past but was fired after one season as DC in Atlanta despite the Falcons finishing in the middle of the league in total defense.
