After suffering a partially torn ACL earlier this month Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.’s availability for the beginning of next season is in question, and with it being it highly unlikely that Falcons current backup QB Kirk Cousins will be back on Atlanta’s roster in 2026 the Falcons will most likely be in the market for another high end backup quarterback, and earlier today The Morning Shift talked about if current Los Angeles Rams backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could be an option to be the Falcons backup signal caller and possible stopgap quarterback to start next season.
“That would be fine, look you’re not bringing a guy in to win the job, you’re bringing a guy in to do what you really need them to do which is maybe start a game or two. That’s why they're backup quarterbacks.” Beau Morgan said
Who the backup quarterback will be in 2026 isn’t an issue the Falcons need to worry about right now, but there’s a good chance the Falcons will be in the market for a high end backup quarterback this offseason, so they can have a quarterback who is capable of helping them win some games, and help keep the team afloat until the Falcons young franchise QB is ready to return next season.
