Yesterday the Atlanta Falcons announced that they’ve officially signed cornerback Kevin King. King had his best season in 2019, played through injuries in 2021, took the 2022 season off to reset and heal his body, planned to make a comeback last season, but tore his achilles while training. Now, even though injuries have plagued a chunk of King’s career earlier today, The Morning Shift explained why there’s still plenty of “upside’ left when it comes to Kevin King.
King was originally selected by the Green Bay Packers in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Washington. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound cornerback recorded 193 tackles (155 solo), 30 passes defended, seven interceptions, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one sack in 51 games (42 starts) over five seasons with the Packers. The Oakland, Calif., native played in 10 games (six starts) for the Packers in 2021 and recorded 27 tackles (20 solo), three passes defensed, one interception and one quarterback hit for Green Bay.
King isn’t the answer at cornerback when you talk about who’s going to be the guy starting across the field from A.J. Terrell on Sunday’s next season, the Falcons will still need to draft a cornerback, but Kevin is a solid pick up that Mike and Beau describe as a “Tre Flowers” type of pick up for Atlanta.
However, if King can stay healthy there is a lot of potential and “upside” there for Kevin King to be a very nice defensive addition for the Atlanta Falcons.
