Earlier today Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Kevin Stefanski joined The Morning Shift and when Mike Johnson asked Coach Stefanski about the team’s identity and what the team’s approach might be in the run game this season the Falcons new head man talked about how the team has the personnel to "lean into different schemes" in the run game.
“When it comes to the run game you know I think we’re lucky in that we have runners and we have an offensive line and we certainly an offensive line coach where we can lean into different schemes, whether that is wide zone, the majority, whether that’s gap scheme as the majority, whether that’s a G scheme, where you’re blocking down from the tackle and pulling guards, those will all be determined based on our roster and where we feel like we are coming out of the draft…” Stefanski
The Falcons Head Coach finished his thought by saying “Then you get through the offseason program, you get through training camp and sometimes you say you know what hey we thought we were going to be good at this I actually think we’re best at this, so those are all things that have to be worked through and I think as coaches if we’re worth our salt we’re constantly just looking at this thing and what matches our players best.” Stefanski said
During his interview with The Morning Shift Coach Stefanski did also make it clear that he thinks “if you try to be good at everything you won’t be good at anything”, so while the Falcons will "lean into different schemes" those schemes will be schemes that Stefanski said himself “complement what you do best”, so it will be interesting to see exactly what that looks like and what the Falcons offense and running game specifically look like this season under Kevin Stefanski and Tommy Rees’ offense.
