The NFL draft is only eight days away, and reporters, analysts, pundits, talking heads, and fans are starting to give their final insight, put together their final mock drafts, and make their final predictions. One of those insightful analysts, Mike Detillier, joined The Morning Shift and explained why he believes Alabama edge-rusher Dallas Turner will be the only defensive player taken in the top 10.
“His skill set and ability to get off of a block, to use his arms and hands really well I think it’s unique," said Detillier. "He’s got some pass rush skills that are really good.”
Detillier also told Tiffany, Mike, and Beau that Pete Jenkins, who has worked at the University of Alabama to help Nick Saban with his defensive line, “raved” about Turner to him and raved about his “technical skills” and his “closing speed to the quarterback.”
Detillier also pointed out that unlike Laitu Latu, Jared Verse, or Chop Robinson, Turner was regularly asked to drop back into coverage as an edge-rusher, and that versatility is a reason why he’ll end up being a top-10 pick.
Detilleir wrapped up his statement about Turner by saying “he’s a got a fire in him,” he’s “pedal to the metal,” and SEC quarterbacks all say that Turner “has a meanness about him.”
A schematic fit in a position of need with a “fire” and “meanness” to him sounds exactly like what the Falcons need in a pass-rusher.
