Detillier on Falcons' QB room: "You didn't bring [Tua] in to watch"

Earlier today The Morning Shift had college football, NFL, and NFL Draft Analyst Mike Detillier on the show, and when they asked him how he feels about the Atlanta Falcons signing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa he explained why he believes Tua will be the Falcons QB1.

“Tua [Tagovailoa] is your starter. I mean that’s immediate for me, you didn't bring him in to watch. I mean nobody is going to say it, but I’m sure that’s the nod nod wink wink you know that hey you’re coming here you’re going to be the starter for us in September, and he’s just gonna run [Kevin] Stefanski’s offense which is quick rhythm, get the ball out fast, and he can do that really really well.” Detillier said.

Mike continued by saying “I’d be shocked if in September, opening game, it wasn’t Tua [Tagovailoa] as the starter for the Falcons, so him signing on with Atlanta didn’t really surprise me because he was looking for a spot that he could step in and win that starting spot and I think he’s got it in Atlanta.”

Mike finished his thought by saying “To me it’s clear cut why Tua signed there. He’s been given kind of the nod he’s gonna be the starter there, and I think in the right offense he can really make it happen in Atlanta offensively.”

When it comes to Michel Penix Jr. Mike isn’t sure “if this is the right fit for him in Atlanta”

Even though this new Falcons regime with Head Coach Kevin Stefanski, General Manager Ian Cunningham, and President of Football Matt Ryan have no ties to Penix Jr. it’s hard to believe they’re ready to give up on the 2024 eighth overall pick without putting their own eyes on him, without coaching him up their way, and without giving him a chance to compete.

Tua is going to have a chance to win the Falcons starting quarterback job in training camp, but he’ll have to take it from Michael Penix Jr.
