Former Atlanta Falcons assistant GM Scott Pioli joined Dukes & Bell and talked about if Falcons should consider trading back in the upcoming NFL draft instead of picking at four.
Pioli talked about why the team should consider moving back.
“I would consider it, and I would strongly consider it because there are a lot of needs on this football team.” Pioli said “One of the big needs is not just players but is getting affordable players, draft picks are rent controlled for a number of years and there is a salary cap issue right now. So getting younger, getting less expensive could be a good thing.”
“Part of the reason I always believed in accumulating draft picks rather than trading picks away is I knew I was going to make mistakes, every leadership group, head coach, general manager is going to make more picks that miss than they do hit. And that’s just the reality in the NFL, a lot of people don’t like to say that but that’s the reality, the truth is the more picks you have the more opportunity you have to hit.”
