As free agency starts to wind down and the draft creeps closer some teams’ needs have changed and there are now some teams that are interested in moving up in the draft, and with the Falcons no longer needing a quarterback they are one of teams that would be willing to trade back, but should they? Earlier today The Morning Shift debated whether or not the Falcons should trade back and acquire more draft picks or if they should keep the eighth overall pick and draft the best player available.
Beau Morgan said he would have “no issues” with the Falcons trading back as long as the team is getting a second round pick for this year’s draft in return just in case Atlanta decides they want to trade back into the first round.
Mike Johnson also has no problem with the Falcons trading back, in fact Johnson believes that being able to trade back should the goal.
“I think that’s always the dream, right the dream is always to trade back if you’re not taking a quarterback.”
At the end of the day it all depends on who's been picked a couple of picks before the Falcons get ready to make their selection, who’s still on the board, and if there’s a run in a particular position coming. There is also a fine line between waiting to see how the draft develops in front of you and missing your window to trade back, but Terry Fontenot, Raheem Morris, and the Falcons brass should be just fine with the timing of their decision.
