Should Falcons trade for Haason Reddick?

The Morning Shift discusses whether or not trading for the Eagles star pass rusher would be a good move for Atlanta

Before Super Bowl LVIII got underway Sunday, national insider for NFL Network and NFL.com Ian Rapoport reported that Eagles All-Pro edge-rusher Haason Reddick has received permission to seek a trade. The Morning Shift discussed if trading for Reddick would be a good move for the Atlanta Falcons.

The 29-year-old Reddick recorded 27 sacks over two seasons in Philly, and has had double digit sacks the past four years with three different teams. (Arizona Cardinals in 2020, Carolina Panthers in 2021 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022 and 2023). Reddick has also been a Pro-Bowler these past two seasons with the Eagles as well.

There’s no doubt that Reddick is a really good player and will find a way to sack the quarterback no matter what team he’s on. However, he will turn 30 shortly after next season starts, and Atlanta would not only have to give up assets, most likely draft capital, to trade for Reddick but they would also have to pay him.

Reddick isn’t going to any team without a deal already in place because the reason Philadelphia is allowing him to seek a trade in the first place is because they don’t want to give him the type of money he’s looking for.

Whether or not the Falcons seriously pursue Haason probably depends on what the Falcons decide to do at the quarterback position. If Atlanta decides to pay a free agent quarterback then they’ll probably draft an edge rusher with the eighth overall pick. If Atlanta decides they’re going to draft a quarterback there’s a good chance the Falcons will pursue a free agent pass rusher, and Reddick would be right at the top of the Falcons wish list.
