There may be intentional fire behind Falcons' Michael Penix Jr. smoke

With the 2024 NFL draft only days away, there are more "insider" rumors flying around than ever before, including speculation that Michael Penix Jr. could now be being looked at in the first round as high as pick No. 8, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Yes, as of right now, the Atlanta Falcons still hold the No. 8 pick in the draft. But Penix being drafted that high may not be as cringy as it seems, according to Randy McMichael.

In the process of getting ready for the NFL draft, smoke screens are every bit as important and true intent. The Falcons would love for several teams to at least believe a little bit that the Falcons are interested in drafting Penix at 8, which would make the pick more valuable.

If teams think that any player of interest will be there when they draft, they will sit on their hands and wait for that player. However, if they think the player they want may be drafted a few spots in front of where they pick, they may put together a package for said pick, to make sure that they get their guy.

Make sense?

It wouldn't even be completely out of this world to think that a team may pick a player that they may not need (like the Falcons taking a quarterback) in order to trade that player to the team that needs him, in a sense calling their bluff.

I'm just not sure if fans are willing to be that open-minded in the process. (insert cringe emoji)
