Most had hoped that once Michael Penix Jr. was cleared for full 11-on-11 activities, he would be ready to take over the quarterback job and start in Week 1—especially after Tua Tagovailoa failed to impress during the preseason games and joint practices. Unfortunately, the Atlanta Falcons announced yesterday that not only would Tua get the start Sunday, but Penix also isn’t ready to return and will be inactive for the season opener against the Steelers. While the news shouldn’t come as a complete surprise, it’s still understandable for Falcons fans to feel disappointed that Penix won’t be under center in Week 1.
