On Tuesday, the Atlanta Falcons held their introductory press conference for newly acquired, Tua Tagovailoa, who they signed earlier this month and is expected to compete with Michael Penix Jr. for the starting quarterback role according to general manager Ian Cunningham and head coach Kevin Stefanski.
“If he’s a team guy and he comes in and makes Michael Penix [Jr.] better and in the process helps us win, I’m all in,” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes said, expressing reservation of Tagovailoa while he and cohost, Mike Bell discussed comments by Tagovailoa when he addressed questions in regards to his time with Miami Dolphins coming to an end and his decision to join the Falcons
“I’m not all in because I saw him regress, get worse at the position Mike and not be as efficient as he should have been when the offense was built for him,” Dukes said explaining why he has been hesitant to be supportive of Atlanta’s decision to sign Tagovailoa, however believes the quarterback competition will be front and center.
“There’s going to be a lot of interest in this quarterback battle. There’s going to be a lot of people watching to see how this shakes out because again, Mike said it, half the country thinks we’re idiots, not us, but the Falcons are doing what they did. The other half understands, hey it didn’t work out, quarterback gets injured,” Dukes said of Falcons signing Tagovailoa as Michael Penix Jr. recovers from surgery to repair a partially torn ACL.Tua Tagovailoa looks to prove he is still QB1
