When a team has pass catchers like Kyle Pitts, Drake London, Mack Hollins, Scotty Miller, and KhaDarel Hodge the last thing you expect from them is to trade for another receiver.

However, the Atlanta Falcons did just that when they traded a 2025 sixth-round draft selection in exchange for Los Angeles Rams wide receiver, Van Jefferson, and 2025 seventh-round selection.

Why would the Falcons make this move? The Morning Shift explained why Atlanta needs a receiver like Van Jefferson earlier today.

“We have not exactly had wide receivers running wide open down the field. Say what you want to about Desmond [Ridder], the protection, I realize what Drake London is, he’s a great wide receiver, he is the number one wide receiver, but he is a 50/50 ball catcher, back shoulder type of throw guy. It’s not a take the top off the secondary kind of guy for the most part, and I think that’s why you bring in Van Jefferson.” Mike Johnson said.

Beau Morgan adds that he believes that Jefferson can not only take the top off a defense, but be an all-around guy that does everything Arthur Smith wants his receivers to do. “He’s a guy who can run routes, take the top off, and he is also good in the run block.” Beau said.

The Falcons could use another guy who can stretch out the opposition's secondary, take the top off, and create separation downfield, and Van Jefferson will be able to do just that and everything else Arthur Smith wants his receivers to do. Also, with the Falcons only having to give up a sixth round pick this is a low risk high reward situation for Atlanta.
