What are the Falcons looking for in a new defensive coordinator?

Dean Pees, who was Falcons DC for two season, retired after the 2022-2023 season

The Atlanta Falcons are searching for a new defensive coordinator after Dean Pees announced his retirement and it seems that Arthur Smith might be set on a very certain type of replacement.

The Falcons have reportedly held interviews with Vic Fangio and Brian Flores, a pair of guys with head coaching experience, and Atlanta Falcons Digital Reporter Scott Bair discusses if there is a significant feature that Arthur Smith is looking for with his new defensive coordinator.

"I do like the names I've heard coming into the building. Brian Flores, really intriguing candidate, they type of presence that make's you want to run through a brick wall, I like that. Vic Fangio is still well-respected, absolutely excellent pass rushes," says Scott Bair. "I like the names Arthur Smith is considering. They are attackers and that's important as they try to fix this pass rush."

Dean Pees came out of retirement to join Arthur Smith in his first season as head coach for the Falcons and has helped build a culture and set a foundation for the Falcons defense moving forward.
