The Atlanta Falcons have made the decision to move on from Arthur Smith and the search for a new head coach, led by Arthur Blank, Rich McKay, and Terry Fontenot has begun. What should they be looking for in their new man-in-charge? Andy and Randy shared the one aspect they would like to see in the next head coach.
Believe it or not, the Falcons haven't hired a coach with NFL head coaching experience since Dan Reeves was brought aboard in 1997. The last five head coach hires have all been new to leading an NFL team.
• Arthur Smith was previously the Titans Offensive Coordinator
• Dan Quinn was previously the Seahawks Defensive Coordinator
• Mike Smith was previously the Jaguars Defensive Coordinator
• Bobby Petrino was previously a college head coach at Louisville
• Jim Mora Jr. was previously the 49ers Defensive Coordinator
While there are certainly other factors to consider, do you want an offensive-minded guy or a defensive-minded guy, does the coach have a history developing QB's, etc, the one constant that Falcons fans should look for after so many first-time hires, should be experience in the role of NFL head coach.
