The Atlanta Falcons are off and running as they head in to the second week of training camp. There have been a lot of discussion about who will be the starting running back for the Falcons.
Coming in to last season, Todd Gurley was, without a doubt, the starter for the team. This season, not so much. Mike Davis signed with the Falcons in the spring, but he has never been a starter in the NFL.
Michael Rothstein, of ESPN, joined the Jon Chuckery show to try to paint a clearer picture of the running back group. “This is a running back room where, it wouldn’t shock me if I saw them sign a running back” Rothstein said. Given that the room doesn’t really have any name recognition, head coach Arthur Smith, if he doesn’t like what he sees in the next couple of weeks, it is entirely feasible they look to see who’s out there on the market.
Regardless of who gets the majority of the carries, or if they sign another running back, Smith is going to need some production from that group in order for his offense to be successful.
