Why NFL Combine meetings are more important than the actual workouts

The Morning Shift explains why coaches & GMs being able to meet with prospects at the combine is more important than the workouts

It’s important for NFL Head Coaches and General Managers to see some of the top college prospects in action, but earlier today The Morning Shift talked about why NFL Head Coaches and General Managers value the meetings they have with the prospects at the combine for than seeing the prospects work out at the combine

Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris gave his own reason as to why he values the meetings with the prospects during the scouting combine as well.

“I love when guys get in those rooms and they have the ability to get uncomfortable in those rooms and you’re sitting there with the light on you with a bunch of people sitting around you that you don’t know. I love to see when those guys personality and they get really comfortable in those spaces.” Morris said

The Falcons Head Coach continued by saying “We’re in uncomfortable environments all the time playing this game. You’re in an uncomfortable environment all the time doing what we do, so those guys that thrive and they shine in those uncomfortable environments are the guys that we’d love to be able to be a part of us.”

Morris finished his thought by saying “Those are the guys that we love and want to make them a part of what we do, and when you find those guys they stand out and they stand out in a good way and it’s about adding those kind of guys to what we want to do here.”

Being an NFL player is so much more than being able to throw a football with no pads on to wide open receivers, running 40 yards really fast, or being able to bench press 225 pounds 30 times, and those meetings allow the coaches and general managers to start to get an understanding of if that prospect checks all the boxes of a successful NFL players.
