Why haven't the Falcons signed Jason Pierre-Paul?

The veteran edge rusher is available and the Falcons could use him.

Its no secret that the Falcons had the worst pass rush in the NFL last year. The defense was only able to muster 18 sacks in the 2021 season and the leader of the club with 4.5 sacks, Dante Fowler Jr., is no longer on the roster. Now the organization did address those concerns in the draft with Arnold Ebiketie, Troy Andersen, and DeAngelo Malone, but why stop their.

During Saturday's edition of the Nick Kayal Show, host Nick Kayal brought up that there is one player that remains unsigned who could be a low risk, high reward signing. Jason Pierre-Paul.

The best reason to bring him to Atlanta is that he's cheap. The fact that JPP hasn't been signed shows that the market for him has dried up. For the Falcons, a team that has less than $13 million in cap space, he's a cheap veteran edge rusher who can give you 20-30 snaps a game in obvious passing situations.

Granted he only tallied 2.5 sacks for the Buccaneers last year, he did miss 4 games. That 2.5 sack total would have been good for second best on the team for this Falcons defense. Signing JPP gives the Falcons their best proven pass rushing option.

The former Defensive Player of the Year would also make a great mentor for some of the young defenders the Falcons are putting their hopes in.

Whether JPP gives you 5 sacks this upcoming season or completely flames out, its a move the Falcons should definitely be looking to make.
