One of the most beloved Atlanta Falcons' players has finally spoken however what has been said appears to be drawing mixed reactions as fans and media react. Last week, former Falcons' wide receiver, Julio Jones was joined by former teammates, Roddy White and Harry Douglas as they discussed their time in Atlanta.
During the conversation, Jones shared what some of his displeasures were with the Falcons during his final years, including his lack of targets during their Super Bowl LI loss to the New England Patriots, which he had four receptions for 87 yards on four targets. However, on Tuesday, 92-9 The Game's Carl Dukes and Mike Bell took issue with Jones' comments in regard to believing he was brushed off by Falcons' owner, Arthur Blank following the firings of Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff.
"Greed cost the Falcons our championship window," Dukes said as he explained why he believes the Falcons "forcing themselves" to pay Jones when he signed a three-year, $66 million contract extension in 2019 should have resulted in a Super Bowl win. "That's why we kept pushing the can down the road with Matt Ryan and attempting to sign guys and continue the run," Dukes continued.
Noting Jones' initial five-year, $71.25 million contract extension in 2015, Dukes explained he believed the Falcons' window to win a with Jones began at that time and ran through 2020. "That should have been the run, but because of greed, Julio, and you wanting to be the highest paid receiver, it cost us," Dukes said.
