Early Sunday morning Ian Rapoport reported that Desmond Ridder will be the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback moving forward, starting Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints. The Morning Shift reacted to the report and explained why this is the right move for the Falcons.
Taylor Heinicke didn’t offer anything more than what Ridder was already giving the Falcons, and while the losses weren’t all on the shoulders of Heinicke the team did go 0-2 in the games he started. Heinicke was stereotypical Taylor Heinicke when he was playing, he did some good things and he did some bad things, but that’s exactly what Ridder was doing too.
Desmond’s floor might be lower than Heinicke’s, but his ceiling is also higher than Heinicke’s, who is and has been a backup quarterback for a reason. But Ridder is still developing, and Atlanta still needs to find out if they have their franchise quarterback moving forward, and naming Ridder the starter moving forward will give them an opportunity to do that.
