The Atlanta Falcons have slowed down on their signings, as they have not signed any new players since May 26th when they signed free agent running back Jeremy McNichols to a one-year deal. However, there is still one signing the Atlanta Falcons would be smart to make, and Jon Chuckery discussed the player the Falcons should sign Wednesday night on The Jon Chuckery Show.
During Jon’s Falcons Flyover segment, Chuckery discussed an article from the Falcoholic that talked about what free agents the Falcons could sign to help out the trenches on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Jon touched on all of the guys on the list briefly, but saved the best for last as he expressed a lot of interest in free agent defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi.
Ogunjobi was pretty productive for the AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals last season, logging 68% of the defensive snaps and finishing the 2021-22 season with 7 sacks. Jon says “It is a health question, that’s been his problem is he can’t stay healthy in the league, but an interior defensive lineman that can get to the quarterback and get some sacks, sign me up, sign me up for all that.”
The five year veteran out of Charlotte could be a nice rotational piece, and potentially a solid starter next to Grady Jarrett, and could give the Pro-Bowler some much needed help. Along with Arnold Ebiketie, Lorenzo Carter, DeAngelo Malone, Troy Andersen and the rest of the new faces on the Atlanta Falcons defense, Ogunjobi could help Dean Pees rebuild this defense back to elite status.
The Falcons may not be able to get him on quite the bargain deal the Bengals got him on last season with just a one-year deal worth 6.2 million dollars, but the 28 year old Ogunjobi shouldn’t be much more expensive than that, and like Jon said if he can stay healthy and if the Falcons can get him at the right price, the Atlanta Falcons should sign themselves up for that.
