With Daniel Jones now an unrestricted free agent and the quarterback coming out and saying he wants to go to a “contender," The Morning Shift explained why the Atlanta Falcons should sign him.
Beau Morgan made the point that the sixth-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft would be a better third-string quarterback than the Falcons current option, Nathan Peterman. Morgan also talked about how Jones’ mobility could make himself a useful weapon.
“I would make him active every week and I would put him in on short-yardage situations," Beau said. "So what if you know it’s coming, stop it.”
Mike Johnson added to Beau’s point and talked about how there would still be some element of unpredictability in a Jones package.
“You still have to defend the pass because he is a starting NFL quarterback as of last week," Johnson said.
At this point signing Daniel Jones wouldn’t be expensive, he wants to go to a contender, which the Falcons are, he has no expectations of starting, and the Falcons have been hurt by Taysum Hill plenty of times that they know if executed right having a guy like Daniel Jones on the team, and having a small package of plays for him could actually benefit the Falcons in a big way.
