On Wednesday, Netflix dropped a trailer for the next installment of their series “Quarterback” which will once again feature Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Kirk Cousins, who appeared on the debut season of the series when he was the signal caller for the Minnesota Vikings.
“I remember thinking, boy, if you were going to follow Kirk Cousins, this would have been the year to follow him,” Steak Shapiro said on Thursday as he and Sandra Golden reacted to the announcement of the series.
After all, the 36-year-old quarterback was center of one of the NFL’s biggest storylines of the 2024 season after signing a four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons in March, only to learn on draft night, his new team was selecting Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth over pick in the draft.
And while the Cousins and Falcons relationship began with an 6-3 start to the season, things took a turn for the worst after their Week 9 win over the Cowboys was followed by four straight losses and the Falcons going 2-6 the remainder of the season and Cousins being benched in favor of Penix Jr.
in Week 16.
“Who controls the editing?” Shapiro would later ask during he and Golden’s discussion as they both admitted their curiosity as to why Netflix chose Cousins once again and just how much access did the cameras have and whether or not any additional information will be revealed in regards to Cousins reported injury during the Falcons Week 10 loss to the Saints.
“What’s it going to be like in Kirk Cousins home coming home from the Raiders game before he gets benched or just coming home from the Chargers game or the Broncos game? Is he going to say I don’t feel healthy? Is he going to have extra treatment? Is it going to come up that the press conference happened? And then are we going to all end up saying, well Falcons should have seen it or he was lying to everybody?” Shapiro asked.
