Why Hawks may wait as free-agency dust settles before adding more pieces

Hawks may not be done making moves in free agency.

Atlanta Hawks GM Travis Schlenk joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the team’s offseason moves so far, an update on Onyeka Okongwu’s status for the 2021-22 season, and whether we can expect any more offseason moves for the Hawks?

When asked if the team is done making moves in free agency.

“Right now we’re comfortable with the 14 guys we have under contract," said Schlenk. "But if you look at our roster depth with Onyeka being out five to six months maybe we’re a little light at the big spot. It might be a situation like we did last year with Solomon. We signed Solomon Hill late to a non-guaranteed deal, he became a big part of our team and a big part of our locker room. Obviously we’re excited to get him back this year as well.

“Once we get through the next few days of free agency and spots really start drying up, there more than likely will be a good player left that we’d have the optionality to go out and bring to camp and give them an opportunity to compete.”
