The Atlanta Hawks went an even 41-41 in the 22-23’ NBA season. However, their talent and how they ended the season in the playoffs certainly feels like they are better than the .500 record they ended with.
The team hasn’t necessarily improved other than clearing cap space with the John Collins trade to the Utah Jazz this offseason. But if Hawks stars Trae Young and Dejounte Murray click, can they exceed 41 wins next season despite having a very similar roster?
I believe the answer is yes. Young could become an early MVP candidate, and they also will have a full year under Coach Quin Snyder. Continuity and chemistry have been key ingredients to winning an NBA championship. With Snyder having a full season, it can be exactly what the Hawks and the players need to fully blossom and gel this upcoming season.
Dylan Mathews alluded to this on The Hometown Take.
“Don’t want to undermine the impact of having Quin Snyder here for a full offseason," said Mathews. "You see and just heard the relationship he is forming with Dejounte Murray, they text everyday.”
So although the Hawks may not have landed the big trade yet, chemistry and continuity certainly will be improved going into next season. In addition, the Hawks still have one of the best backcourts in the entire NBA. Murray playing more on the ball allows Young to get easier looks as a scorer. This formula could be exactly what the doctor ordered for the dynamic duo.
