The Atlanta Hawks have their new Head Coach in Quin Snyder after Snyder and the Hawks came to an agreement last Sunday, but could the Hawks head man end up being more than just the head coach for the Hawks? Jon Chuckery explained why he thinks Snyder’s role with the Hawks could evolve by the offseason Wednesday night on The Jon Chuckery Show.

The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly paying Snyder $8 million dollars a year, and if that’s true that puts him in a four way tie for 5th place when it comes to highest paid coaches in the NBA right now with Mike Budenholzer, Nick Nurse, and Jason Kidd. Quin Snyder is getting top tier money from the Atlanta Hawks, and if Uncle Ben taught us nothing else “With great power comes great responsibility.”  Is it possible he may have a lot of influence or maybe even make the final call on personnel decisions when the offseason hits?

Jon Chuckery believes this theory isn’t out of the realm of possibilities especially if the Hawks find some success towards the end of this season saying “If there is some success with all of this don’t be surprised if there aren’t moves made in the offseason to put Quin Snyder in a higher elevated position to have more influence on the roster.”

Jon Chuckery also says “Trae Young, John Collins, Dejounte Murray, all of the guys on this roster, they need to get on board with Quin Snyder, and I do think that if guys aren’t on board with Quin Snyder then those guys will be finding new homes.”

Jon talked to NBA beat writer for The Salt Lake Tribune, Andy Larsen, Monday night on The Jon Chuckery Show, and he also talked to longtime voice of the Utah Jazz, David Locke, on his podcast. Both Andy and David basically said that Quin Snyder is a guy who wants to be able to make personnel decisions, and be in a President of Basketball Operations type of role.

Higher paid head coaches with prestige such as Doc Rivers or Gregg Popovich make personnel decisions and it’s pretty common knowledge that Quin Snyder wants that same thing. Snyder has playoff experience as a head coach with the Utah Jazz, and the Atlanta Hawks have now brought Snyder in to get the Hawks back to their winning ways, and get the team over the championship hump, so like Chuckery said if Snyder sees some early success with the Hawks, this season included, don’t be surprised if he’s in an elevated role sooner rather than later.
